Hanggliding

Hanggliding is the easiest and most convenient way to achieve high performance, foot-launched personal flight. It became popular in the early 1970's and the hangglider evolved into today highly reliable flying machine. Unfortunately, the bad publicity it gathered in the '70s hasn't been completely forgotten, even with the amazing safety record it has today.

How does it work? The glider is setup on the ground. Then the pilot connects his harness to the glider and do a hang check. He picks up the glider, jog a few step down the hill, into the wind, and quickly becomes airborne. After flying away from launch he inserts his legs completely into his harness for maximum comfort.
Steering is done by holding the control frame and shifting the pilot weight from side to side. Over the landing zone the pilot tilts himself upright, and when nearing the ground, he uses the control frame to slow down the glider which completely stops going forward as the pilot's feet contact the ground. Another 15 minutes and the whole flying equipment is put away back into the carry bag! Most hanggliders only weigh about 45-70 pounds. More experienced pilots fly further and longer, multi hours flight are very common.
